The vigil will take place tonight (September 20th) at 5pm outside the O’Reilly Hall.
The event is being organised following the murder of Ashling Murphy last Week, and is for “any student or staff member of our academic community who wishes to stand in solidarity against bullying, harassment, sexual violence and gender-based violence”.
In a statement, UCDSU Gender Equality Campaign Co-ordinator Niamh Scully said “In light of the tragic killing of Ashling Murphy we at UCDSU are holding a vigil in memory of her and all other victims of gender based violence. Everyone is welcome and can bring any tokens they would like to and there will also be a chance to give a few words. We are a strong community and we join together in solidarity with all victims of gender based violence.”
UCDSU have stated Dignity and Respect Advisers, Student Advisers and UCDSU volunteers will be present for those needing support, and have asked that all attendees remain masked and socially distanced.
