UCDSU second-in-command Fiona Hammond resigns

Fiona Hammond will leave her position as Chief Operating Officer of UCD Students’ Union today, Friday 7th September, after 14 months with the Union.Hammond took up the role of COO in August 2017, immediately before the Union became embroiled in a protracted scandal which eventually lead to the impeachment of former-UCDSU President Katie Ascough.With a background in healthcare, Hammond will soon join Organ Donation Transplant Ireland, which provides governance, integration and leadership for organ donation and transplantation services.Hammond has completed two Masters level degrees in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), one in Healthcare Management and another in Healthcare Ethics and Law. She previously worked as Group Head of Operations in Vhi SwiftCare Clinics, as Project Manager at RCSI, as an Executive Manager at the National Office of Clinical Audit and as a Global Practice Operations Manager at the Swiss multinational pharmaceutical company Novartis. UCDSU declined to comment on Hammond’s departure.
