The UCD Fresher B football team have partnered with DCU’s Fresher B hurling team in a charity event this evening in DCU to raise funds for the Rape Crisis Ireland (RCI).
The UCD Fresher B football team have partnered with DCU’s Fresher B hurling team in a charity event taking place this evening in DCU to raise funds for the Rape Crisis Ireland (RCI).
The match, hosted by DCU’s Fresher B hurling team in partnership with UCD’s Fresher B football team, will take place in DCU’s sports grounds this evening from 4pm to 6pm.
RCI funds Rape Crisis Centres across Ireland that provides support for surviors of sexual violence, including in Sligo, Donegal, and Carlow. RCI also has a 24 hour national helpline available for ‘free, confidential and non-judgmental support’.
On the event’s GoFundMe page, the organisers state, “As student athletes and managers we believe in the power of sport to bring people together, and we are using this to bring attention to this issue.” The organisers further state, “We have decided to use whatever following we’ve built throughout the year to stand up for something that we feel has become an increasingly poignant and urgent issue in student life, that simply must be addressed. We are fundraising for Rape Crisis Ireland, a charity that provides support and advocates for victims of sexual abuse.
At the time of writing, the event currently has €2,682 in donations made via its GoFundMe page. Donations can be made here.
The event will include a 11-a-side soccer tournament, amongst other various activities.
