UCD Alumna Emma Donoghue Nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for ‘Room’

Irish-born UCD alumna Emma Donoghue has been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 88th Academy Awards Ceremony. The Canada-based writer is nominated for Room, a film based upon the eponymous book also by Donoghue. Directed by Lenny Abrahamson, it is one of the many nominations to honour the abundance of talent to spring from the island this year. Other Irish nominations include Saoirse Ronan, Lenny Abrahamson, and Michael Fassbender for Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Actor, respectively.Donoghue attended University College Dublin completing her undergraduate degree in English and French in 1990, before moving on to attain a PhD in English from the University of Cambridge. She will be competing against Drew Goddard, Nick Hornby, Phyllis Nagy, and Adam McKay and Charles Randolph in her category. The Oscars ceremony will take place on the 28th of February.
