Two sabbatical officers resign due to complications with work visas.

In a statement released on September 29th, UCDSU announced that two sabbatical officers have resigned due to complications with work visas. Both the Entertainment Officer and the Campaigns and Engagement Officer have stepped down from their positions, following “a lengthy battle to secure visas,” according to the statement. The former Entertainment Officer and the former Campaigns and Engagement Officer are both international students.

“This situation is a frustrating reminder that student democracy should not be locked behind visa barriers,” the statement from UCDSU continued. “UCDSU is committed to advocating for visa rights to be extended to all future international officers.”

By-elections have been confirmed for two sabbatical officer roles. Nominations have closed as of October 7th. Hustings are set to take place on October 16th. Voting is to take place on the 22nd and 23rd of October, with results announced on October 24th.
