Dublin’s afternoon tea scene blends rich Irish tradition with modern elegance, offering unforgettable experiences for both food lovers and cultural enthusiasts.

Ireland is one of the world’s most tea-loving countries, where tea is far more than flavoured water, it is a symbol of national identity. This deep-rooted tradition remains vivid in some of Dublin’s finest afternoon tea destinations.

The Westbury, an elegant and tranquil haven in the heart of the city, offers charming views over Grafton Street. Its menu features exquisite delicacies, from the Oak Smoked Salmon, Cucumber & Dill Cream Cheese on Guinness bread to an impressive selection of miniature handmade desserts. The highlight, however, is its extensive tea menu, boasting 25 varieties, including unique blends such as Apple Crumble with cinnamon and toffee notes on a malty black tea, and Pai Mu Tan Melon, which combines delicate melon aromas with the sweetness of white tea. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are also available. Prices start at €79, and rise to €102 for the Champagne Afternoon Tea experience.

Another jewel in Dublin’s city centre is The Merrion, a lavish venue renowned for its distinctive Art Tea experience. Each sweet creation draws inspiration from 19th and 20th century art, paying homage to figures such as J.B. Yeats and Louis Le Brocquy. Guests can sip their favourite tea while browsing The Merrion Art Collection Catalogue. Vegan scones, cakes, pastries, and sandwiches are available, with prices set at €75 per person or €95 with a glass of luxury champagne. This refined, culture-rich experience lasts approximately two hours.

Near Grand Canal Square, in the vibrant Docklands, lies The Marker Dublin Hotel, an award-winning destination deeply connected to Irish culinary identity and landscape. This connection is reflected in creations such as the Marker Battenberg, a geometric cake inspired by the hotel’s architecture, featuring chocolate with subtle vanilla notes. A tribute to Ireland’s heritage can also be found in the Chocolate and Guinness Cake, honouring Arthur Guinness. The Festive Afternoon Tea experience is priced at €65 and can reach €100 with the addition of Rosé Champagne, an invitation to celebrate the authentic moments these exceptional venues offer.
