Student Tips: UCD Career Events Rundown

THINKING about life beyond Belfield and all the trappings that come with it can be a daunting thing. Uncertainty about the future creates stress; stress you particularly don’t need if you’re in your final semester here. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a clearer idea of what you want to do when you graduate? A good plan for the future can alleviate stress so you can enjoy the time you do have left in UCD.A great place to start planning is the UCD Career Development Centre. The centre regularly holds seminars and workshops on job seeking skills in addition to organising recruitment events across campus. Students and alumni can sign in to Careers Connect to search for vacancies, make an appointment, access online career resources and register for events.Below are the highlights for some of the Career Development Centre events for undergraduates taking you up to the semester break.[br]February 13th Maximising Impact at Interview: This seminar is restricted to business students and will focus on interview preparation, including what to expect in an interview, how to prepare for an interview and the most effective way to answer questions at an interview.Gerson Lehrman Group Presentation: GLG is the world’s leading platform for professional learning. Employees will be presenting to final year students about their career choices and what life is like with GLG. The presentation will take place in the Quinn School of Business.Launch Your Career with a Year in NYC: Taking place in the Global Lounge, there will be a presentation on the Mountbatten New York Programme. Each year 250 graduates are accepted and work at over 40 companies whilst also studying towards an MBA, Masters, or Postgraduate Certificate in International Business. February 14thStryker Presentation: Stryker is one of the world’s leading medical technology companies and they will be in the Engineering Building for a presentation on their graduate programme.IBEC Presentation: IBEC will be in the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School to present their global graduate programme which is currently open to apply for.Glen Dimplex will have an information stand in the foyer of the Quinn School of Business. February 15thGrant Thornton will have an information stand in the foyer of the Quinn School of Business. They will then have a presentation about their graduate programme but registration for this event is now closed. February 16thSupply Chain Management Careers Fair 2017: This fair offers attendees the opportunity to speak to employers, such as Dell and Keelings, who are hiring for supply chain management roles. It will take place in the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. February 21stThe Chatteris Educational Foundation Presentation: This talk, taking place in the Global Lounge, explains how 70 - 80 graduates are placed in local primary, secondary and post-secondary schools across Hong Kong for a 9-month paid placement to enhance the English curriculum.Making Effective Applications, CVs & Cover Letters: This workshop, in the Engineering Building, will be delivered by Nicola Fortune and will explain how to produce effective CVs and cover letters. February 28thThe UCD Volunteering Fair: Taking place in the Global Lounge, this fair matches organisations with UCD students. Whether you want to work as a volunteer at home or abroad, you'll find something here for you. March 2nd Recruitment and Selection: Interview Skills: This seminar takes place in the Newstead Building and will be given by Nicola Fortune. The focus will be on interview preparation, including what to expect in an interview, how to prepare for an interview and the most effective way to answer questions at an interview.[br]If you’re interested in any of these events, UCD Career Development Centre asks to make sure to register online in advance as oftentimes places are limited.
