RTÉ News has reported that Simon Harris plans on implementing an initiative whereby the state will pay for the mandatory quarantine for Erasmus students.
Talks are understood to be at an advanced stage and announcements may be made tomorrow. The initiative may cost the state €1 million.
The issue of support for Erasmus students had previously been raised by MEP Billy Kelleher and Ógra Fianna Fáil who believed the sending institutions should pay for the Erasmus students quarantine and the government should foot the bill. The Irish Examiner reported on the 7th of April that Simon Harris said Erasmus students should undergo hotel quarantine, as the virus “doesn’t care” why people are travelling.
