Fashion Editor Polly Rogers reviews her top 5 picks that are in style this spring!
Ditsy Dots: The prettiest polka print is back (did it ever really leave?), but it's most certainly staying in style this spring. Polka dots can be seen everywhere and on everything, from nails to tops to skirts to shirts, if it’s not dotty then you're definitely ditsy! Anything can be in this iconic print, and it's a great pop of fun to pair with basics such as jeans, cottons and pastels. Don't leave it black and white, dots can be and should be colourful and fun, some cute combos I’ve seen include yellows browns pinks and teals!
Midi Skirt Mayhem: Midi skirts are most definitely spring staple, their length is the perfect combo for the unpredictable Irish spring, long enough so you don't freeze, but floaty enough so you won't roast when the sun finally shines. A plethora of fabrics, from a kicky denim to a light lace or even a comfy cotton, these skirts work with trainers, boots and pumps and can be worn with almost any top. A midi skirt with either a jersey or baby-doll blouse, even a cardigan or a tank top. Accessorise with belts or scarves tied loose and lowrise and add a little flare and fun into your outfit.
Headband Heaven: An accessory for all hair types and textures, curly or straight, thick or thin, long locks or a short pixie - tame those locks back out of your eyes this spring with one hell of a headband. Patterns and colours are endless so why not create the sandwich method within your outfit? Or tie in the hardware to the jewellery and bags, zips and clips! Stripes and spots, pastel or neon, even animal print - held in place with funky or metallic hairclips and you're all set for some serious streetwear swagger.
Glittering Gold: Chunky is never enough - maximalism through jewellery dripping down your forearms has been seen before, but is an immediate installment this spring. While all-gold is big, we could also be seeing a mix of metals, from silver to brass and bronze, as a combo or by themselves. Boring and bland cannot be in your vocabulary if you constantly clink as you move. Layering of necklaces and earrings as big as your ears can take are also important to complete this OTT accessorisation.
Gnarly Nails: With the rise of talented Gen Z nail techs, we are seeing more and more gorgeous designs that alone would make an outfit. This spring, the glam grabbing around glasses include trends such as stars and dots, as well as stripes and swirls, florals and french tips and a lot of whimsy found in cute little features of fish, animals, and fruit. Colours vary from pastels to deep primaries, and lots of gold and silver accents are used to create clunk and shine within these little works of art. Whether you’re a salon frequenter, or a fan of a press on fix - trending are terrific styles for your fingertips.
