RIP.ie Acquired by The Harpy in Surprise Purchase

There’s a new graverobber in town, bitches!

Following reports in December of last year that death notice website RIP.ie was purchased by the Irish Times, The Harpy has paid an UNTOLD SUM of cash to prevent those vultures like the College Tribune and their sad, undignified “satire” column The Turbine from swooping in and ruining everything any further.

While the Irish Times promised a €100 charge per death notice, we at The Harpy are far more benevolent and pledge only to charge €50 (plus value-added tax). Funerals are a business, but the real money is in telling people when the funeral will be because otherwise they won’t be there, and unlike the Irish Times, we promise to only use the proceeds on something modest like a second-hand personal sailboat instead of a huge private yacht.

Were they really your loved one if you aren’t willing to pay €50 to remember them? We think not, which is why we’re also adding a feature to name and shame as cheapskates those family members who didn’t cough up some cash to pay for the memorial in the death notice.

The College Tribune and the Irish Times, both ever in the pocket of Big Funeral, fought tooth and nail to keep this from happening, but thanks to our bottomless funding from the Students' Union  readers like you, everyone can rest easy knowing that RIP.ie is in capable hands.
