Boygenius release teary ‘Parting Glass’ charity tribute to Sinead O’Connor with Irish Folk duo Ye Vagabonds in aid of the Aisling Project.
This Friday November 17th, Grammy nominated Indie supergroup Boygenius and Irish folk duo Ye Vagabonds released a tear-jerking ethereal rendition of ‘The Parting Glass’, produced by Interscope Records in tribute to Ireland’s late revolutionary singer Sinead O’Connor.
The striking cover art displays a younger, beautiful Sinead, a half-smile visible through the shadowed image, hands clasped to her chest, an all-knowing glint in her eye.
This traditional Gaelic ballad encompassing both gathering and mourning was renditioned by Sinead herself in 2002, her cutting and clear vocals relaying the emotional weight of the song. And what an intimate and unique tribute Boygenius and Ye Vagabonds have given her. For generations, ‘The Parting glass’ has reverberated through hallways, houses, and hearts, paying homage to the souls that pass through our lives and beyond.
As tradition, Phoebe Bridgers, one of three members of Boygenius, releases a charity cover around Christmastime each year, with this year all proceeds from ‘The Parting Glass’ donated to the Aisling Project in Dublin.
The Aisling Project is an after school intervention that strives to help disadvantaged pupils in our local area of Ballymun. Michael Clear, a project manager with the Aisling Project has remarked that “It’s an absolute privilege to be associated with the stunningly beautiful homage to Sinead O’Connor and we can’t possibly thank Boygenius enough.”
It is with great gratitude and honour that this local charity is supported by such a high calibre artist, made all the greater by the fact it is tributed to one of Ireland’s most precious figures, Sinead O’Connor, and supported by up-and-coming Irish folk duo Ye Vagabonds.
