After a merciless eleven days without sunshine, the cloudy sky has finally broken.
The dull spell that engulfed Dublin was record-equalling in its length - it is the longest period of time that there has been no sunshine recorded in the capital since March 1969.
With the clouds finally lifting, it feels like we’re now entering into spring. After Storm Eowyn, and after our eleven-day sunless streak, the very possibility of good weather (or even just non-bad weather) feels truly exciting.
It may feel like a mundane thing to cite as the peak of the week, yet it’s something that I’m sure has been affecting each and every one of us. It’s no secret that when we’re not getting enough sunlight, we start to feel tired and sluggish. While it’s true that this is heavily linked to a lack of Vitamin D, there’s also psychosocial factors at play - when everything seems dull and dreary, it’s a lot harder to muster up the energy to socialise, exercise, or do anything at all that allows you to feel the goodness of the world. Now that spring is finally teasing its arrival (fingers crossed), everything is beginning to feel a little more hopeful.
Even if it’s boring, here at OTwo, we’re celebrating the arrival of blue skies. And praying really hard that the weather hasn’t gone terrible again by the time this goes to print.
