The Palestine solidarity encampment adjacent to UCD has been ordered to vacate the site.
In a letter seen by the University Observer, the encampment situated outside the N11 bus stop has been ordered to vacate the area in the next 24 hours.
Received at approximately 3:30PM today, January 6th, the letter from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Country Council (DLR CC) instructs “those persons who are currently in occupation of the unauthorized encampment established at the public lands controlled by the Council” to “vacate the site within a period of 24 hours”. The letter warns that the continued occupation of the site is “considered an act of trespass on Council controlled property”.
The letter warns that the continued occupation of the site is “considered an act of trespass on Council controlled property”.
The Palestine solidarity encampment was first established on the 8th of September 2025. The encampment aims to draw attention to UCD’s academic ties to Israel. The site that it currently occupies was purchased from UCD by DLR CC following a compulsory purchase order in 2023 as part of the Bray to City Centre Core Bus Corridor Scheme.
The letter further states, “Following a number of inspections of the Open Space it is manifestly clear to the Council that use and occupation of the site poses a serious risk to occupants’ personal health and safety as well as an unacceptable risk to the local environment in light of the lack of adequate facilities to support the prolonged use of the Open Space in this manner.”
The letter concludes with a warning that if the site is not vacated within 24 hours from the time and date received, DLR CC will be “left with no option but to take whatever action as may prove necessary to compel you to vacate same [sic].”
This is a developing story, with more to follow.
