‘The Ball’ has brought back UCD’s annual ball and turned it into Ireland’s only student festival. UCD has partnered with DIT to create the event.On the 28th of April, students can head to Dun Laoghaire Harbour for a full festival experience. The Ball will be a multi-stage festival beside the sea, with a funfair, food stands and a unique line up of live music.The headline acts was announced on Sunday as singer-songwriter Gavin James. After a busy 2016 playing months of sold out shows, including a set at Electric Picnic, James is sure to be popular at the festival. Also playing The Ball are Irish DJ Mark McCabe, known for his song Maniac 2000, and 90s cover band Smash Hits, who previously performed at UCD’s Terminus event last year.Upcoming Irish hip-hop trio Hare Squead will perform after a stand out set at Longitude last year, alongside Waze and Odyssey, and a live DJ set from Bakermat. London artist Route 94, producer of the hit single My Love, is also due to appear.The Ball showcases a line-up of established acts and upcoming home-grown talent in the form of Dublin based R&B artists AikJ and Soulé. Singer Jamie Duff, FM104 DJ Frank Jez and UCD’s Battle of the Bands winners Future Stops round up the acts announced so far. The Ball Facebook page promising more to come.
