Volume XXXI Issue 3 - The Final Issue of 2024! What a year it's been!

Issue Three is here. A month has passed since our last issue, and the University Observer office has been plunged into darkness (when the lights turn off at 4pm). What a wild month it has been! We sincerely hope you’re all hanging in there.

On November 5, The University Observer jointly hosted a U.S. Election Watch Party with the Literary and Historical (LnH) Society. Together with 400 attendees (who admittedly dwindled in the early hours of November 6) we stayed up all night to bear witness to the re-election of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States. The consequences for women’s reproductive health, LGBTQ rights, and the millions of asylum seekers and immigrants seeking safety at U.S. borders will be devastating, not to mention to those in Palestine and Ukraine.

At this ‘Watch Party’ we hosted a journalist panel, featuring patron saints of the UO Dylan O’Neill and David Kent. Through the duration of this panel, we discussed the impending likelihood of a Donald Trump Presidency, and if this were to transpire, the serious threat this would pose to the freedom of the press. The irony is not lost on us that, less than two weeks later, The University Observer was denied access to the LnH ‘This House Believes Fathers Should have a Say’ Abortion Debate. ‘The speakers requested no press.’

That just about wraps it up for this semester, but don’t cry for too long because we’ll be back in January and even better than ever. You can still keep up to date with all things UCD on our website and on Instagram and TikTok (That’s right, we’re hip, cool, and down with the kids)
