Candidates have been confirmed for this year’s Students’ Unions executive elections, with nine candidates contesting for six positions as Sabbatical Officers. Voting will take place on 1, 2, and 3 April in the UCD Student Centre and Smurfit Campus, or online via the Mi Voice platform, with results to be announced on Friday, 4 April.

14 candidates are contesting for Part-Time Officer positions. Ag, Food and Vet College Officer, Engineering College Officer, and the newly created Business Smurfit College Officer role all failed to produce a candidate. Nominations for these positions will reopen shortly.

Sabbatical Officer Elections

The role of SU President is the most contested race in the sabbatical elections this year, with three candidates running. The candidates on the ballot will be current SU Education Officer Tia Cullen, current SU Campaigns and Engagement Officer Saskia McCormack-Eiffe, and Michael Roche, who launched his campaign at the LnH debate ‘This House Would Try Everything Once’.

Three sabbatical races are uncontested this year, with one candidate each running for the position of Campaigns and Engagement Officer, Entertainments Officer, and Graduate Officer.

Hazen Griffin is running for Campaigns and Engagement Officer, Lily Gnojewski is running for Entertainments Officer, and Shreyansh Sachin Jagtap is running for Graduate Officer.

The Education Officer race has already seen one candidate drop out, with Anna Margaret Whelan initially making it onto the ballot, but announcing on her campaign's Instagram a day later that she would be withdrawing from the race. This leaves Matthew Mion as the sole candidate running for Education Officer, in what is now a fourth uncontested race.

Welfare Officer is the only other contested race for a sabbatical position, with Emilia O’Hagan and Shane Lynch both running for the position.

Sabbatical Officer hustings will take place on Thursday 27 March, where candidates will promote their manifestos and debate each other if contested, and students will be given the opportunity to direct questions to candidates.

Part-Time Officer Elections

Five Part-Time Officer positions will be contested this year. Ben Neary and Marco Sicic are running for Health Science College Officer. Ayman Memon and Aisling Murphy are running for Law College Officer. Mateusz Polinski and Bianca Munteanu are running for Architecture College Officer. Hannah Watson and Angelous Ntalachanis are running for Social Science College Officer. Gemma Roche, Nick Haynes, and Ivan Ambep are all running for Science College Officer, the most contested Part-Time Officer position this year.

Three Part-Time Officer positions will be uncontested. Jessica Klein is the sole candidate for Arts & Humanities College Officer, and Rabeya Boshree is the sole candidate for Business Quinn College Officer. Callan Ó Cléirigh is running uncontested for Irish Language Officer / Oifigeach na Gaeilge, with hustings for this position to take place on Thursday 27 March, alongside the Sabbatical Officer hustings.

Three Part-Time Officer positions currently have no candidates, Ag, Food and Vet College Officer, Engineering College Officer, and the newly created Business Smurfit College Officer, and will be re-opened in due course.

Hustings for College Officers will take place over the next two weeks, with a timetable to be published shortly.
